Pollen type: Cyperus type.
Comparison remarks: Pear-shaped, with ragged "pore" at broad end, and 4 "furrows" marked by elongated areas of rougher and thinner exine along length of grain. Pollen of this species is typical of many (but not all) Cyperaceae.
Morphology (unacetolysed pollen): Size class: medium (30-50 μm). Shape in equatorial view: elongate (prolate) and different at each pole. Shape in polar view: multisided/multilobed or irregular. Aperture numbers: 4-6. Aperture type: pores only, or furrows only. Surface pattern: smooth or indefinite. Exine section: with layer of close, thin rods. Other structural features: granules or projections scattered on apertures.
