Botanical classification: Class Magnoliopsida; Order Fabales; Family Leguminosae (Papilionoideae).
Common name: White clover.
Pollen type: Trifolium repens type.
Comparison remarks: 3 furrows with pores which tend to protrude cytoplasm; exine surface shallowly and inconspicuously reticulate (coarser in equatorial region). T. pratense (red clover) is larger and has more coarsely reticulate exine.
Morphology (unacetolysed pollen): Size class: small (20-30 μm). Shape in equatorial view: elongate (prolate). Shape in polar view: round, or triangular/rounded triangular. Aperture numbers: 3. Aperture type: furrows with pores. Surface pattern: smooth or indefinite, or net or pitted. Exine section: thin to medium (no rods visible). Other structural features: cell contents granular.
Bee pollen pellet colour: Grey to brown or beige.
