Comparison remarks: This species previously known in NZ as Polygonum persicaria L. Some other species referred to Polygonum have polyporate pollen of this type, others are tricolporate.
Morphology (unacetolysed pollen): Size class: large (50-100 μm). Shape in equatorial view: round or irregularly round. Shape in polar view: round. Aperture numbers: more than 12. Aperture type: pores only. Surface pattern: net or pitted. Exine section: medium or thick with coarse external rods, or with other projections.
