Common name: Darwin's barberry.

Pollen type: Berberis.

Comparison remarks: Furrows join at ends, may appear as folds. The exine is punctate.

Morphology (unacetolysed pollen): Size class: large (50-100 μm). Shape in equatorial view: round or irregularly round. Shape in polar view: round. Aperture numbers: 7-12. Aperture type: furrows only, or united or irregular furrows. Surface pattern: smooth or indefinite, or net or pitted. Exine section: thin to medium (no rods visible).

Bee pollen pellet colour: Yellow, or orange (Sawyer 1981).
