Comparison remarks: The pore margin is slightly thickened, but not so sharply as in Gramineae. The outline of Gramineae pollen is also circular rather than oval- or boat-shaped.
Morphology (unacetolysed pollen): Size class: medium (30-50 μm). Shape in equatorial view: flattened oval (oblate) (aperture at one pole). Shape in polar view: oval. Aperture numbers: 1. Aperture type: pores only. Surface pattern: smooth or indefinite. Exine section: with layer of close, thin rods. Other structural features: thickened or projecting edges to apertures and granules or projections scattered on apertures.
Bee pollen pellet colour: Brown or beige to pink or red.
