Common name: Silver beech.
Pollen type: Lophozonia.
Comparison remarks: 5-9 furrows. Larger pollen than that of the other NZ beeches.
Morphology (unacetolysed pollen): Size class: large (50-100 μm). Shape in equatorial view: flattened oval (oblate). Shape in polar view: round, or multisided/multilobed or irregular. Aperture numbers: 4-6, or 7-12. Aperture type: furrows only. Surface pattern: isolated dots due to spines or other projections. Exine section: with very small spines or projections (<1 µm).
